Maori Language Week

The end of Term 3 is always Maori Language week and our annual House Haka Competition.  Competition is always really fierce with the houses practicing every day and competing hard during the competition.  Sarah Walsh and her wonderful team created Korowai and other decorations for all members of the houses to wear.

Well done to Rimu for finally breaking their drought and taking out this Year’s competition.

Roller Mills Tournament

Three of our boys, Rawiri, Rocky and Javarne were selected to take part in the Roller Mills Tournament this year.  Roller Mills is the most prestigious tournament for under 13’s in the North Island.  They competed against 9 teams over a 5 week period in venues around the North Island, often travelling as far as Tauranga and Kerikeri.

Their team was Northland and they won 2 games and came fourth overall.  The training was really tough and they had to train 2 times a week and often had to stay overnight at venues that were far away.

Well done Boys!  You make us really proud!

Sports Exchange

At the end of Term 3 Wellsford participated in a sports exchange at Kaiwaka Sports grounds and competed against schools like Otamatea, Tinopai, Ruawai, & Matakoe.  We took a Rippa team, Netball team and a soccer team.

We smoked them!  Our Rippa team won every single one of their games and took out the Rippa trophy, Netball also won all their games and took out the Netball trophy.  Our awesome soccer team also did really well and came in third.  It was a fantastic day, organised by the Year 12’s at Otamatea High school as part of an NCEA credit.  We all had an awesome day.

Photos to come.

Gamefroot

This term and last term, Room 3 has been planning, designing and creating their own online game as part of their Science Fair unit.  They are making these games specifically to teach people something.  Some games are about bones, some are about the Eiffel Tower and heaps of other topics. We used gamefroot.com and sploder.com to create our games. They will be testing players before and after playing their game to see if they have learned anything by playing it.  Our science fair is in week 4 so we are really busy trying to finish our games and create our quizzes to test our players. Here are a few screen shots of some of our games.  We will be updating our blog with links to the playable games when they are finished.
